John Moninger  B: abt 1753  Germany  D: 6 Jun 1834  Washington, PA

Wife: Mary Magdalena Shuster  B: 1756 Germany  D: 1 Feb 1840 Wash. Co. PA

John, a carpenter, came from Germany.  It is believed that he was born about 1753.  They had settled in Funkstown, MD by 1789.  He brought his family to Amwell Twp, Washington County in 1800.  By 1808, he had bought 139 acres of land in Amwell Township.

His wife, Mary, had a brother, Daniel, who was an inkeeper in Washington County.  By 1781, he was in Tuscawara County, Ohio.  By 1790, he had 6 daughters and 3 sons.  Daniel died in 1790.

George and Elizabeth resided in Strabane Township in 1804-1810.  After his death in 1830, his children lived with Aunt Mary Shipe.  In the records of baptism of children, kept by the Ten Mile Luthern Church, it is recorded that two children of this parentage were baptized, one in 1806 and the other in 1809.

John's parents: George & Elizabeth Moninger of Washington County, PA

John married and first located near Chesnut Ridge in Amwell Township, where his children were born and he taught school. In 1860 he moved to Nebraska. He was a fur buyer for J. J. Astor. About 1864, after his wife's death, he returned to Washington County, PA.  He had 7 children.  John was buried near Glyde, PA.

William's parents: John Moninger and Mary Watt Hinds of Washington County, PA

When William was 6 years old, a couple named John and Elizabeth Emerick adopted him but did not change his name. He grew up in Omaha and after his marriage, traveled to central Nebraska and settled on a farm along the North Loup River. He served as sheriff from 1892-1896, and County Treasurer for 9 years. They had a ranch in Loup County, but later lived in Burwell.
