John Cox was born abt. 1777 in Brancepeth, about 5 miles SW of Durham City. He was a "husbandman" - a farmer. In 1797, he married Elizabeth Isabella Herriot of North Shields at Chester le Street. Their children included Mary (1799), Elizabeth (1801), Isabella (1803), Francis (1809) and Harriet (1812). Francis, the fifth son of John & Elizabeth, married Francis Ann about 1836. Harriet married Philip Marley on Nov. 2, 1834 in Gateshead, Durham, England. Harriet & Philip had children - George (1835), Isabel (1838) and Ralph (1841).
