Lewis was born in 1794 likely in Ohio County Virginia. He moved with his parents and siblings to Belmont County Ohio by 1796.
He married Sarah Warren, daughter of Haddock Warren and Nancy Ann Hawley (or Hillyard), on Sep. 8, 1814 in Belmont County Ohio.
Haddock WARREN, Born on Apr 17, 1765 in Murderkill Hundred, Kent Co., Delaware. Haddock died in Richland Twp., Belmont Co., Ohio, on Mar 17, 1830; he was 64. Buried aft Mar 17, 1830 in William Kurth Farm, Richland Twp., Belmont Co., Ohio. Occupation: Farmer. In 1789 when Haddock was 23, he married Nancy Ann HILLYARD, in Delaware.
Lewis and Sarah lived in Richland Twp of Belmont County in 1820, and York Twp of Belmont County in 1830 when his father Obediah died. They moved to Jackson Twp of Hocking County, Ohio by 1839, and to Colerain Twp of Ross County by approx. 1846. Sarah died on 13 Jan 1847 in Vinton County, Ohio. Lewis remarried to Lavina Dodd Valentine on 21 May 1847 in Ross County. Lavina died on 28 Nov 1868 in Ross County, Ohio. Lewis then moved to Illinois with his daughter, Nancy, and her family. Lewis is listed in the 1870 Census for Piatt County, IL along with Amos & Nancy Tatman and their children. Lewis Hardesty's pension papers state that his last payment was made on 4 Sep 1878. On another, it states he has been dropped from the pension rolls as of 4 Mar 1882 due to "Limitations". He likely died about 1880 in Piatt County, IL. Nancy can be found in the 1910 Census, living with her son, Seymour, and his family in Champaign County, IL.
We have not been able to find either Lewis' burial site or his will. If anyone knows whee to find these, please let us know.
