A WARREN & HARDESTY Family Reunion was held Fri/Sat., Oct. 16 & 17 in Belmont County, Ohio. All descendants of Haddock WARREN & Obediah HARDESTY were invited to attend, as well as, descendants of all related families!
This reunion was dedicated to the memory of James Ross Wiley, our cousin, friend & organizer for past WILEY-WARREN-HARDESTY Reunions!
If you need lodging, the Hampton Inn is ideal. Not only does it offer wireless high/speed internet service, but it also offers a view of Haddock & Nancy WARREN's farm! I booked a room on Yahoo's Travelocity. Their discount rate was $60 for a single, so that's not bad! (About $35 cheaper than other sights claiming to offer discounts.)
For directions from your home, simply go to the following page, & it you'll see a map. Then click "to here", type in your home address, & you'll have directions!
Activities will begin on Friday, October 16th at 5:00 pm, with a reception at Undo's Restaurant, which is located above the Hampton. Gregg Warren has reserved a meeting room, so that we'll all have an opportunity to "meet/greet & mingle". Light snacks will be served & drinks may be purchased. (A $10 donation is suggested to help us cover room & snack expenses.)
On Saturday, October 17th at 10:00 am, a car caravan tour of WARREN & HARDESTY sites will leave from the Hampton. Tour stops will include: Haddock & Nancy's farm & graves, Shiloh Cemetery, Daniel & Sarah WARREN's farm & the foundations of two homes on the property (Gregg still owns this farm & has made several very interesting discoveries). We'll also visit the Pleasant Ridge Church & Cemetery, and Obediah's farm & grave. If time permits, we'll then view the farms of Obediah's possible brothers-- Francis, John and Richard Hardesty. As you may know, these 4 Hardesty's appeared together before the President of Congress on April 11, 1785, representing the Inhabitants of the Old Northwest?
Our grand finale will begin at 6:00 pm Saturday evening - We've reserved the main shelter house at Memorial Park for a "potluck" picnic!
For those of you who are planning to do individual research, the Belmont County Courthouse in St. Clairsville is a wonderful research, as well as, the library across the street. You might also want to check-out the library in Barnesville. A more complete listing of resources may be found here.

Obediah Hardesty was born on Jan/July 26, 1758 in either England or Virginia. Nothing is known about his parents at this time. Obed was a Revolutionary War soldier, one of George Washington's soldiers who spent the winter of 1777-1778 at Valley Forge. He was a Private in Captain Finley's First Pennsylvania Regiment. He also served under Captain Swearingen in Col. Daniel Morgan's Rifle Regiment from June 1777 to March 1778. After the war, Obediah became a farmer and married "Polly from Paris" Mary Hilliard D'Aubelieul about 1783. Mary came to the states with her father, who was likely a French "sutler" associated with Lafayette and the French Troops.
For more details on Obediah from 1776-1800, go to Very Early Information on Obediah.
We believe that Obediah came to Ohio in 1794, from Washington County, Pennsylvania, having purchased land in Jefferson County, Ohio and then sold that land when they moved in 1796 to Belmont County. The earliest proof of residency is given by: "Obediah Hardesty: - Jacob Colemand of Belmont County, O. sells to Obediah. Wit: Elijah Dyson and Ralph Hardesty."
The List of Lands Belonging to Residents in Belmont County for Taxation in 1802 lists "Obediah Hardesty 2 July 1800 on McMahon's (creek)...32" The 1805 Richland Twp Residents Tax List shows Obediah Hardesty with 280 acres at R3T5S35. Obediah also shows up in the 1806, 1807, 1809, 1820, and 1830 Federal Census' in Richland Twp., Belmont County, Ohio.
